In April 2024, LAPD officers David Abdalian, Estevan Garcia, and David Gonzales responded to a location on Franklin Avenue to inform an individual that they were allegedly violating a stay-away order issued by the Church of Scientology. However, the individual did not have a stay-away order prohibiting their presence at the Scientology Celebrity Center.
Rather than verifying the accuracy of this claim, former LAPPL Director Abdalian relied solely on information provided by the Church of Scientology, failing to conduct proper due diligence. Based on this unverified and inaccurate information, the officers issued an illegal order requiring the individual to leave the premises. The interaction concluded with the officers stating their intention to file a crime report regarding the incident.
