LAPD Sergeant Brett Hayhoe was dispatched to the scene of a potential armed suspect. Before he arrived, an officer could be heard on his body camera informing his partner that the suspect was unarmed.
When Sergeant Hayhoe approached the suspect’s location, with his right hand he fired out of the passenger side window while driving with his left, striking the unarmed man in the face and shoulder.
Following the shooting, Hayhoe failed to promptly call for an ambulance for the injured man and did not secure the scene. Instead, he asked to see evidence (item the unarmed suspect had been carrying).

After committing the drive-by shooting, Hayhoe was told to isolate himself.
Instead he broke protocol by asking where the “item” was and walked over to look at it.
Even he no longer referred to it as a “weapon,” yet the LAPD continued calling it that at the press conference. pic.twitter.com/FllqMahRFq
