Police dash-cam video showing a man being killed at the end of a police pursuit was posted on a Facebook page under the name “Tim Helton,” and is suspected of belonging to LAPD officer Tim Helton. The post does not appear to have been officially authorized. The footage appears to have been recorded from a patrol vehicle’s dash camera.
If the video was obtained through the officer’s official duties and shared for non-work purposes, the posting violates California’s “Kobe Bryant Act,” which restricts first responders from sharing images of the deceased outside of legitimate law-enforcement functions.
