Sucha Singh was downgraded from Police Officer III to Police Officer II and transferred out of the Metropolitan Division following misconduct allegations stemming from a May 1, 2007, crowd control incident.
Singh was found to have unnecessarily struck an individual with his baton and initially made a misleading statement about the incident. The Board of Rights found Singh guilty of excessive force and issued an official reprimand.
Singh later filed a legal action seeking a writ of mandate to reverse his downgrade, which was denied by the trial court on the grounds of “unclean hands.” Singh appealed, but the appellate court affirmed the trial court’s judgment.
