Two Los Angeles police officers, Mario Rios and Michael Montoya, seemed to have covered-up their involvement with a 16-year-old gang member who was fatally shot just after being released from their patrol car in rival gang territory.
A district attorney’s investigation revealed that Rios and Montoya, who had previously dropped the youth off in the rival area as punishment, failed to document the encounter. They also withheld critical information from homicide detectives, internal affairs, and their superiors, obstructing justice and casting doubt on the credibility of their statements.
