In April 2024, LAPD officer Estevan Garcia, David Abdalian and David Gonzales arrived at a location on Franklin Avenue to inform an individual that he was allegedly violating a stay-away order issued by the Church of Scientology. However, the individual in question did not have a stay-away order prohibiting his presence at all Church of Scientology locations, such as the Scientology Celebrity Center.
Instead of verifying the accuracy of the information—which was incorrect—the Garcia relied solely on the Church of Scientology’s claims without conducting proper due diligence. Based on this unverified information, the officers issued an unlawful directive for the individual to vacate the premises. They concluded the interaction by informing the individual that they would be filing a crime report regarding the incident.
