On 12/23/2021, Los Angeles police officer William Dorsey Jones Jr. shot a man wielding a bike lock who appeared to be retreating, resulting in the death of the suspect and a 14-year-old girl in a nearby changing room.
LAPD Chief Michel Moore recommended that the commission find Jones’s decision to use deadly force unreasonable and in violation of LAPD policy.
However, the LAPD commission ruled that Officer Jones was justified in firing his weapon in the initial shot. Nonetheless, they determined that he acted improperly by continuing to fire a second and third shot after the initial encounter.
