On October 17, 2021, while working at a police crime scene in Hollywood, Officer Martin Perello engaged in several violations of LAPD policy.
He repeatedly shone his flashlight into the cameras of reporters and witnesses on the scene, obstructing their ability to record events. Additionally, Officer Perello refused to provide his serial number when requested by multiple individuals present.
His conduct also displayed a lack of courtesy, as he repeatedly provoked complaints from those at the scene, creating an unprofessional and hostile environment.

On May 24, 2021, during a police stop in Hollywood, LAPD Officer Martin Perello repeatedly directed his police vehicle spotlight directly at the camera of a complainant who was documenting the police activity. Even when the complainant relocated to avoid the light, Officer Perello adjusted his spotlight to intentionally obstruct the complainant’s ability to film the interaction. This behavior constitutes a violation of the First Amendment and is contrary to LAPD policy.
Furthermore, the LAPD has stated that they were unable to adjudicate the complaints due to an administrative error, resulting in the investigation taking over a year to complete.
