Officers Bryan Tahuite and
Juan Pantoja-Gonzalez the Southeast Patrol Division were found to have conducted a vehicle search without sufficient cause or consent on October 19, 2020.
The officers stopped the complainant’s vehicle citing a roadway obstruction. After the sergeant arrived, the occupants were searched, handcuffed, and detained.
The officers then conducted a search of the vehicle’s passenger area, justifying their actions based on the complainant’s prior firearm-related arrest.
However, Body-Worn Video (BWV) confirmed that the search was illegal.
