Stephanie Alcocer was a member of the LAPD bomb squad involved in the detonation of a large cache of confiscated fireworks that caused tremendous damage to the surrounding community.
Her primary responsibility during the operation was constructing a countercharge—the explosive designed to safely detonate the fireworks in the LAPD’s containment vessel, which ultimately failed.
Following the explosion (which destroyed nearby homes and injured 17 people) Alcocer was suspended for 10 days.
Despite her involvement in the incident, she was later promoted to sergeant.
